Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have seen an increase in students using e-bikes, electric scooters, and other motorized devices to travel to school and school activities.
New York State law requires riders to be at least 16 years old to operate an e-bike or e-scooter. Students who are legally permitted to operate these devices (at least 16 years old) are welcome to use them to travel to and from school or practices as long as they:
Ride safely and remain in control at all times.
Obey traffic laws and yield to pedestrians.
Never race, perform stunts, or ride recklessly.
Do not carry passengers.
Follow school directions regarding where devices may be ridden and parked.
Parents should also be aware that some electric dirt bikes, e-motos, mini-bikes, and similar devices may look like e-bikes but are not legal for use on public roads. Devices that are not legal for operation on public roads in our area may not be ridden on school property.
Our goal is not to prevent students from using e-bikes or e-scooters, we simply expect students to ride legally, safely, and responsibly. Illegal, reckless, or dangerous riding may result in school consequences and the loss of the privilege to ride on school property.
