The Mount Morris Central School District is delighted to announce that junior, Peyton Martin, has placed among the top three in the 2019 Digital Media Festival (DIGIES) with his electronic music composition “Lost at Sea”.
Martin is a percussionist for MMCSD’s Concert Band. He plays drums and electric guitar for the Jazz Band and Jazz lab programs, where he also serves as a composer and songwriter. Martin can also be heard performing the National Anthem at select Mount Morris Varsity Basketball games.
“I am very proud of Peyton and his desire to share his abilities with others,” said Mr. Irwin, MMCSD Instrumental Music Teacher. “He is a fine representation of Mount Morris pride and his excellent work is a great addition to past MMCSD student accomplishments in the DIGIES Festival.”
The DIGIES is an annual digital media conference and festival run by the Genesee Valley Educational Partnership (GVEP), with the mission to strengthen the digital media continuum between PreK-12, higher education, and professional institutions. The DIGIES recognizes student potential with a focus on the active creation of digital media.
DIGIES is open to students from all school districts within GVEP, which includes all of Livingston County as well as schools in Wyoming, Genesee and Steuben counties. The festival covers the full gamut of grade-level education and each level has submission categories for audio, visual and film.
Martin is a top three finalist in the 10-12 audio category which includes music compositions, podcasts, 'radio' plays, and any other audio media that can be digitally recorded.
Awards and final placements will be given at the DIGIES Festival that will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Strong Museum of Play. Admission to the event is free.
Congratulations Peyton!
