This past Saturday, the Mount Morris Chess Club participated in their first monthly tournament of the year, hosted by Genesee Valley BOCES. These tournaments offer students from area schools the chance to compete across four events held between December and March. Each participant plays five matches, and medals are awarded to the top four players in each division: Elementary Beginner, Elementary Intermediate, Elementary Advanced, and Middle School.
A total of 18 Mount Morris students showcased their chess skills, with twelve junior high players and six sixth graders competing. Each student contributed points to the team’s overall performance, with several players achieving remarkable individual success.
Elementary Achievements:
Charlie Bump: Claimed first place in the Advanced Division.
Cooper Woodworth: Finished fourth in the Intermediate Division.
Junior High Achievements:
Jose Melendez Garcia: Secured a second-place medal, winning all five matches.
Evan Tellier: Earned a third-place medal after winning four out of five matches.
Forest Hull: Recognized with an Honorable Mention Award for winning four out of five matches.
Congratulations to all students who participated and represented our school with pride! We eagerly look forward to the next tournament, scheduled for January 11th. Keep up the excellent work, Chess Club!
