🏒 History in the Making! 🥅 We are thrilled to celebrate Willy Manthey II, who has made history as the first Mount Morris student to play Varsity Hockey for the District! MMCSD is now a part of the Livingston Lakers Varsity Hockey Team. “We are very happy that our students will now be able to play hockey at the Varsity level,” said Athletic Director Swede. Willy, a sophomore in high school, has had a passion for hockey since he was just 3 years old. “I’ve been really looking forward to this opportunity and I’m excited to join this team and see what happens in the future,” said Willy. His dedication and hard work have led him to this incredible milestone, and we couldn’t be more proud! Don’t miss Willy and the Livingston Lakers in their first game of the season at SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday, 12/3 at 6 PM. Let’s cheer on Willy and the Lakers as they kick off an exciting season!

Today, five student-athletes attended the Section V and RISE Leadership Conference at FLCC. “The event focused on topics such as leadership, conflict resolution, diversity, identity, and strategies for creating meaningful change in our communities and through sports. Our students were paired with peers from Wilson High School for most of the activities, providing a valuable opportunity to interact and learn from students from a different school,” said Coach James.

Our Elementary Scholastic Book Fair is happening now through Tuesday, 11/26! All students will have the opportunity to visit the fair during school hours. Families are also invited to attend during Grandparents and Special Persons Day on Tuesday, 11/26. Click the following link to preview books available at the fair and explore additional titles for online purchase: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/mountmorriselemschool1. For every item sold, MMCSD receives 25% of the proceeds, which will benefit our Student Council! We’ve also set up a Community eWallet for anyone who wishes to make a monetary donation, allowing more students to purchase a book from the fair. If you’d like to donate, click here: https://bit.ly/3CxRS5H. Please note: The donation page says "3rd grade" because a grade had to be selected during setup, but donated funds will be available for students in grades Pre-K through 6.

Earlier this school year, our 4th graders explored the beauty of Letchworth State Park and the Humphrey Nature Center! Students had the opportunity to learn about local wildlife, ecosystems, and conservation efforts while engaging in hands-on activities. From identifying animal tracks to understanding the importance of preserving our environment, it was a memorable and educational day for all!

Today, we proudly celebrated Veterans Day! The morning began with refreshments in the Bistro, followed by a Walk of Honor with some of our local veterans, led by Elementary Student Council, recognizing the brave men and women who have served our country. Our presentation included a heartfelt Pledge led by the Elementary Student Council and a powerful rendition of The Star-Spangled Banner, sang by Alexis Roberts. A beautifully crafted slideshow paid tribute to veterans, while the Elementary Band, directed by Mr. Irwin, performed My Country, 'Tis of Thee. We were honored to have Yeoman Senior Chief Petty Officer, Darlene R. Croston speak, followed by a special moment introducing our veterans. Principal Dean led a meaningful Q&A session, giving our students a chance to express their gratitude and ask thoughtful questions. The event concluded with our 4th Graders, guided by Miss Foti, singing America the Beautiful, leaving everyone inspired and grateful. Thank you to all who contributed and to our veterans for their service.

Exciting news from our Mountain Biking (MTB) Club! This popular club allows our JH/SH students to explore nature, boost confidence, and get great exercise with rides covering 7.5-10 miles each, riding 2-3 days a week outside school hours. Mr. Sylor, who leads the club, highlights how students benefit both mentally and physically, gaining unique views of the community. We are fortunate to have access to 70 miles of the Greenway Trail and a unique 25-mile section of the Finger Lakes Trail, which is perfect for mountain biking. Our students enjoy quality bikes and helmets, provided by the school to encourage participation. Participants even train on a skills course at Al Lorenz Park, set up on weekends by Mr. Sylor, and cross-train with our Varsity XC Team! Interested students can sign up in Mr. Sylor’s classroom. We look forward to growing this club and including more students on these outdoor adventures!
