Congratulations to our Athletes of the Week, Matt Bacon (Varsity Track) and Tommy Schmieder (Modified Baseball)! Congratulations is also going out to our Sportsmanship Award recipient, Sarina Johnson (Varsity Track)! “This week, at our last home meet of the season against Cal-Mum, Matt had an incredible meet and scored in all four of his events. He won the long jump with a new personal best of 18 feet, the 100 with a new personal best time of 12.24 and the 400 with a personal best of 56.2. Matt also ran the 110 hurdles for the first time, placing second and will be competing in the pentathlon this Friday,” said Coach James. “Tommy has been a positive leader for the team and he is an exceptional player. Tommy always shows sportsmanship towards the opposing team’s players no matter what the score is, never getting discouraged,” said Coach Huffman. “Sarina has shown incredible sportsmanship and character by helping with our modified track program. Even outside of our normal practice time, Sarina has volunteered to attend the modified track meets to help. She has been incredible in supporting our younger athletes and uses what she has learned in her own track career to help others,” said Coach James.

Congratulations to our Junior Varsity MasterMinds team on qualifying for the National Academic Championship Tournament! The first round of the National Academic Championship will be held virtually on May 18th and 19th. MasterMinds is a quiz bowl-style academic competition for high school students, which uses National Academic Quiz Tournaments questions. Two teams of up to four players face-off answering questions on a wide variety of topics including literature, history, science, visual and auditory arts, philosophy, social science, geography, current events, and popular culture. MasterMinds provides students with a meaningful opportunity to represent their school in an interscholastic setting, and they have a lot of fun. The Mount Morris JV Masterminds team includes Scott Lonsberry, Daryel Santaella, Evan Tellier, Robbie Lonsberry, and coach Treva Walker (as pictured). Mrs. Walker has enjoyed coaching the Mount Morris MasterMinds team immeasurably and she shared that these students demonstrate academic excellence, leadership and intellectual rigor. Please wish them the best of luck in the National Academic Championship!

“Marissa wakes up early every morning to work out in the weight room before school. She is very focused and determined. I am extremely proud of her work ethic. Marissa also attends indoor soccer on Thursday mornings at 6:30am. She not only works to make herself better, but also helps make everyone around her better with her team-first attitude. Keep it up, Marissa!” said Coach Connolly.
